Take Steps To Get Rid Of Carpet Beetles

The steps to get rid of the carpet beetle infestation are fairly simple to follow and if you keep them out, you could save yourself a lot of bother and probably cost from damaged carpets or other fabrics. Most standard insect sprays will work against carpet beetles and should be used whenever you have a suspicion about their presence. Also during your efforts you may notice that there are certain spots around the house from which the adult carpet beetles are getting into the house. See if you can take action to close up these openings and discourage them from getting into your home. This one action may rid you of the carpet beetle menace forever.

Carpet Beetles Live Outside

Carpet beetles are generally found outside homes, but can enter your home and use your carpets to lay their eggs. And one you have these larvae in your home they can damage your carpet and other fabrics like in your upholstery or curtains. So if at any stage you do find their presence in your home you would do well to take immediate action to get rid of them. You may also find that they get into food or any other animal product. Once the adult carpet beetles lay their eggs, you will find them trying to leave the house through windows and other openings, and you can spot them on the screens if you are vigilant. See if you can track them back to where they laid the eggs and first get rid of these before they hatch and develop into larvae.

Carpet Beetles Feed On Animals and Plants

Carpet beetles are also known as skin beetles and are just one of the almost 700 species that exist worldwide. They are scavengers that feed on animal or plant material that can even be hair or skin and other natural fibers. Dead insects are eaten by these beetles and there presence is used by forensic scientists to help in criminal investigations. They do cause a lot of damage to natural fibers and are therefore the cause of damage to a lot of carpets and other products made with natural fibers. You may even find them in violin cases, where they feast on the strings of the bow which are made of hair.
