Carpet Beetles Feed On Animals and Plants
Carpet beetles are also known as skin beetles and are just one of the almost 700 species that exist worldwide. They are scavengers that feed on animal or plant material that can even be hair or skin and other natural fibers. Dead insects are eaten by these beetles and there presence is used by forensic scientists to help in criminal investigations. They do cause a lot of damage to natural fibers and are therefore the cause of damage to a lot of carpets and other products made with natural fibers. You may even find them in violin cases, where they feast on the strings of the bow which are made of hair.
